I think about 35 hours... I was awake for 24 hours on a train, then was still awake that night after I arrived.

It was a trip to my Mom's house in NY... 24 hours on AmTrak. I've made the trip about 3-4 times now. I never got one of the rooms because they were always something like $150 extra per ticket. Sometimes if they have extra rooms that haven't been purchased they'll come around and ask if anybody wants to "upgrade". By about hour 20, you're seriously considering coughing up the extra $150 just to lay down.

One thing I can say... AmTrak is a miserable trip. They share the rails with freight trains, and the freight trains have the right of way. If a freight train is loading or unloading something, changing tracks or adding/removing a car ... Amtrak stops and waits. Sometimes for HOURS. I was once 8 HOURS LATE to my destination. The people that were supposed to pick me up in NYC assumed my trip was canceled and went home (this was after they took off work to pick me up!). The people on the train got really ridiculous on that trip... one guy was selling phone calls on his cell phone for $5 a call (because people were desperate to call their parties and tell them they were late).. another guy had booze in his luggage and started selling shots after the bar closed. Even on a normal trip there are drunk people wandering up and down the train constantly ...people start to stink and they're laying all over the place snoring, etc. It's absolutely miserable. Like being stuck in a giant tube of idiots you can't get out of- even the smell of the dining car starts to get to you after awhile.

But yes, 35 hours or so ... I arrived at my Mother's, and then some other relatives came over that I hadn't seen in years. They wanted to sit and visit all night.. I remember losing the ability to even talk. Like my jaw psychically ached. I was so tired I was glassy eyed, leaning in my seat and in a sort of delirium.

The longest I have been awake for would be about 30 hours. I used to work 7p to 7a on the weekends, So when I would get off work on Monday at 7a.....I would stay up all day long and not got to bed until about 10p that night after having gotten up at 3p on Sunday.

I think the longest for me was about 48 hrs, I was reading Harry Potter books and just could not put them down! I read all night through a weekend. Besides that I think it was about 30 hours or so- insomnia.
