| I was thinking the other day about when I was a kid. I was remembering the freedom of the spirit I had and how I missed those simple things that made my world then. I remembered how I used to spin around and around until I fell over and I'd lay there and watch the trees and the sky spin above me. I also remembered hugging the earth and, I swear, I could feel the earth rotating.
My question to you is...
What childhood freedom do you miss? What did you love to do that you can't anymore now that you're a 'grownup'?

| I remember laying on my back in an open field staring at the sky , with he clouds moving and not seeing anything else in view you could feel like you were moving too. I lived in the country alot of things are differnt. I miss that way of life , things are so much simpler when you live on a farm in the middle of no where | |

| Well my childhood really was not a child hood. But I always wished that I could meet someone who cared enough about me to love all my faults...When I wasabout 11 there was a boy who i really disliked @the time. He lived across the street. We really never spoke to each other But he used to get me in trouble.. Who would have ever thought that one day when i was like 17 I would walk up and notice him in a different way. That was 11yrs ago, when i got the courage up to talk to him. Now we are married (8yrs in October) w/4 kids . I have to tell you that my dreams did come true. He has helped me through so much.. I got really sick nd no matter what he stayed here with me. There we a few close calls but we realized how much we LOVE each other that we could get through it. He has proved he loves me with all my faults so that is my favorite childhood memory. | |

| Awww!!!! That is such a wonderful story! I adore hearing love stories. It's wonderful knowing that the person you love is there for you no matter what and only loves you more each day. I'm so happy you found the man of your dreams who deserves such a heartfelt person. | |

| There is a song by Bob Segar with the lyrics "I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then..." After losing my son 25 years ago to SIDS and losing my husband 7 years ago in an auto accident, I can really relate to the longing for innocence that age brings about. | |

I used to do that too! Or sit on a revolving stool or chair and spin it as fast as it would go. I used to love rolling down hills or jumping on the bed. I also used to "invent" new food combinations; like soaking pretzels in root beer and "baking" them on the heater vents. I was a pretty weird kid.

I'm so sorry for your losses. No one should have to bury a child, especially a baby. I can't imagine losing my husband. So, I feel for the experiences you've had. They must have been really difficult.. almost unbearable. I'm sorry. A lot of things happening lately triggered this in me. Not the age issue, but longing for innocence of childhood. I think it's good for us to stop and remind ourselves of what lets us feel free and try to grasp that again. It's good for the soul. Lillen- Yup, I am still a weirdo, lmao. Just ask my husband. But that's okay. I think HE'S a big weirdo too. Just in completely opposite ways. Don't you miss rolling down a hill?! Oh, I loved that! (Well, not when you hit a stick, lol)

Did you ever play king or queen of the mountain? find the highest piece of ground and you and friends knock each other off of it... One time I got knocked off and it literally knocked the wind out of me , I thought I was gonna die. Little did I know that climbing the top of a huge dirt pile and getting pushed off was not the greatest Idea! ohhhh dont we long for the days of ignorant bliss.

| Putting chairs and tables close together and hanging blankets over them for a club house. Digging tunnels through the snow with my Step brother and Step sisters after the blizzard of 78. It was over 12 foot in a lot of places. Of course, I lived in the country then, she we got it bad! Skateboarding my grandmas basement at night while all the adults played cards. Playing hide and seek outside at night. Catching Lightening Bugs, but we weren't so nice to them, we would use them to write things on the sidewalk because it would glow.....eeeeeekkkkssssss! | |

| I remember taking ducklings home every spring from the pond. I thought we should have a pet duck. Mom didn't agree. However, I never stopped trying, lol. | |

| oh, I loved hide and seek at night and catching lightning bugs. Camping out in our back yard was also so much fun. We lived in a little rural community and no one locked their doors and yet we all felt safe and secure. I miss that sense of security. | |

| Sometimes I long for the good ole days of childhood. My mom made us tents of blankets over the clothes lines and we played for hours and hours. We played from sunup to sundown and sometimes after. We played games like kick the can and blind mans bluff. Anyone remember freeze tag. We would play from one end of the street to the other and in those days no one had fences- it was a huge long stretch of grass to play one. It was safe not to lock doors and nobody was afraid of being kidnapped. We often made fire pits in the garden and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows- sometimes cooking spuds in the embers as well as corn on the cob. There was always so much to do and none of it seemed to cost much. I remember the joy of penny candy- and yes it was a penny. I remember an ice cold coke straight from the machine full of ice water and the bottle still dripping with icy water.. And that bottle cost a whole five cents! I remember laying on the grass and looking for shapes and characters in the clouds as they floated by. I remember the lemonade stands we had and the people who bought from us. I remember sleeping outside at night without the fear of someone bothering us. I would't let my grandkids do that now. Awe-- those were the good ole days! | |
