1 cup of salt
1/3 cup water
1/2 cup of cornstarch
1/4 cup cold water

food coloring / extracts (peppermint) * optional

In a medium sauce pan, mix salt and 1/3 cup of water over medium heat
stirring occasionally ( about every 3-4 min)
Remove from heat; add cornstarch and 1/4 cup cold water
add a few drops of food coloring/ peppermint extract

The mixture will be like mash potatoes
stir until thickens, cool, then knead on a board or countertop
that has been slightly dusted with cornstarch

Store unused play clay in a refrigerator in a sealed container with a damp sponge

my kids rolled it out to about a 2 inch thickness and used cookie cutters and
let the shape dry on parchment paper turning over every 30 minutes to an hour
until completely dry and harden and then painted
makes cute ornaments
