| the island is crawling with monkeys. that's just one of the pics of them. they sit around you on the resort bar deck and beg for your drinks. we were warned they had alcoholic monkeys everywhere and they do i also have pics of brocket deer and turtles and peacocks and stuff that roam around. not sure how many pics i should post, so i just picked a few. | |

| we were there 8 days. To be totally honest, while the beaches were truly beautiful, the rest of the island vacation was horrible. We were hungry the whole time and even though we were in a 4 star resort, the A/C didn't work. Supposed to but didn't and they didn't care. The natives were not friendly as described. Not friendly is a nice way of saying it. No matter where we went we were treated very rudely. My husband and I are both friendly, quite, down to earth people and we were friendly to everyone. No one returned the courtesy though.
They don't have milk, eggs, any mainland food on the island. We paid 11 US dollars for a quart of goats milk and at one store we found a box of Stouffer's french bread pizza. The 2 pack kind and it cost 27.99 US prices. They only have fish, some kind of potato like vegetable and goat's milk. That's what they survive on. None of us eat fish but we got so hungry we tried it and just couldn't eat it. The goat's milk was gray in color and even little Katie (who didn't know what it was) wouldn't drink it.
These are the same foods served in restaurants and are so expensive. We found a little shop that sold Diet Coke in 20 oz. bottles and it cost 5 US dollars each.
All the houses are shacks and a lot don't have doors/windows. They don't have sidewalks so everyone walks on the roads. They drive on the left side on one lane roads that are barely paved. They have no place to pull over so everyone has to stop in the roads and the locals just drive right around them regardless of whether someone is coming in the opposite direction.
I could go on but I just wanted to give you a true feel of the island. Unless you enjoy primitive vacations, I would not recommend that anyone visit. The beaches made it bearable, but just barely. I can say I have the experience of visiting Barbados but I would never go back. It just wasn't the right fit for us. I guess we are spoiled by all the things we have here in the US.

| wow unbelieveable. I have heard horror stories about such vacations. People buy the vacation they see on the brochure. The brochure promising wonderful amenities , great fine restataunts ect... and when they get there it is awful. Thats terrible. Is there anything you can do to maybe get some money refunded , call or write the owner of such hotels , what about a travel agent did you go threw one? I think its just terrible how they dont mind ripping you off and then treating you badly after. And what they charged you for simple convience store things is crazy , you know a local wouldnt have to pay that much. Sounds like they took advantage every chance they got. | |

| I doubt it. We prepayed the vacation through Orbitz and they're policy is as long as the hotel has the amenities listed (whether they currently work or not) that you take your chances. Husband is checking with them though, just to try. The total price for the trip was so low we kinda thought we might be taking a chance.
The locals do have to pay those prices. These items are in their small grocery stores and the barbados prices is exactly 2 times more than the US price. The locals do not buy these items. They depend on fishing for their own food and eating the potato vegetable and drinking the goats milk. They do not eat at restaurants. They buy some fruit and vegetables but other than that, if they don't catch their food, they go hungry.
It's sad really. Makes me appreciate what I have.
