Do you have a craft type store there? If so, they might be able to help you or at least give you some ideas on the difference in yarns. I haven't knitted in years- my yarn buying has been for tying quilt so I get the thin kind for that. Wish I knew more so could be of more help. Question

Unfortunately I don't know much about knitting either. I would love to learn tho. It's on my list of things to do... but I agree with Tele, try a craft store. They are usually helpful Very Happy

I used to crochet, but that has been eons ago. Not even sure if I still know all the different stitches in that anymore, think I have forgotten some of them now. LOL, but I used to buy just the basic average yarn. I think knitting is pretty much the same, depends on what you are making and how heavy you want the item to be. There is thinner yarn as tele mentioned, which is good for making doillies, thin shirts and such. I think one of the brands is Heart (if I remember correctly). I know in crocheting there is different sizes of needles, I believe there is in knitting too. You definitely should talk to someone in a craft and/or fabric store that is knowledgeable on knitting.

Not sure if this will help or not but there are sites that have knitting lessons, free lessons. They have all the steps listed then some of them have little video clips that show how to do what it's explaining. Yep, Dream is right, there are different sizes of knitting needles too and I think sometimes the needle size might help determine the kind of yarn you use but I'm not sure. It's been long, long time since I knitted. lol But the online sites might help too. They have them for crocheting too.
