Don't throw out those advertising magnets!

Reuse them to make your own cheap magnets.

Use double sided tape to put pictures of you kids on then cut them out. You can put clear packing tape over the pictures to keep fingerprints away!

Or tape pictures cut out of magazines or whatever else you can think of!
