| Little background information...several years ago when my vision was still good enough that I could drive into town by myself I had gone to the public library. When I came out I noticed that I had a flat tire. This was before hubby and I had cell phones and I couldn't get a hold of him. Needless to say, I didn't have a clue on how to change a tire...I do now...but not then. Anyway, after standing in the parking lot for awhile a middle aged guy pulled in...I walked over and asked him if he could help me. The reply I got wouldn't have shocked me nearly half as much if it had come from some smart ass teenager...he looked at me and said and I quote...."Lady, that is what f**king triple A is for"...and then he proceeded on his merry way. By the time someone eventually helped me, I was in tears. When I got home and related this to hubby he was ready to track the guy down and seriously kick some ass.
Now fast forward to today...hubby had called to let me know he was in route and to start warming up dinner...after awhile I was wondering what the hell was taking him so long, when he called again. On the way home there was a lady broken down on one of the country roads that he was on. He pulled over to see if she needed some help and offered her his cell phone to call her husband...well apparently her teenage son was on the computer and she couldn't reach her husband (damn dial up where we live)...turns out she lived on the same road we did...just the opposite end...so hubby gave her a ride home. She knew hubby's dad when he was still alive and that my fil had done some painting for her in her house. So by now they are at this lady's house and the husband offered to pay Bobby $10.00 for giving her a ride home. Of course hubby refused and told the guy just to help somone out the next time he saw someone broken down. Well after talking some more the guy wanted Bobby to give an estimate on some ceilings that he wanted painted...so Bobby might have gotten a new gig...the moral of the story...as a rule, no good deed goes unpunished.

| The same thing happened to my mother, only it wasn't a flat tire... something happened with the car and she pulled over, but couldn't manage to start it again. She was way out in some little podunk town and a man pulled over to help her ... she was on guard the whole time but realized there wasn't much she could do since she was in the middle of nowhere. He offered her a ride, and against her better judgment she got in the car with him. She said the minute she got in and heard the door click shut, she realized there were no handles on the inside of the car's doors. She said she was in an instant panic but tried not to show it. My mother carries a small .25 Beretta in her purse, and said she had her hand on it the entire time. He dropped her off at her house without incident, and she thanked him, but we had to laugh about it later- she told us that if he had so much as reached for the cigarette lighter, she would have shot him point-blank. That poor guy never realized how much danger he was in. | |

| Damn Lillen, I don't think I want to relay your mom's story to my hubby....he might stop being such a good guy and I can't say that I would blame him. Yeah, if I was a woman still living in Washington, D.C. I might have the same attitude as your mom....btw... just out of curiousity did your mom have a permit to carry a concealed weapon? Where I live, I would like to think that my redneck neighbors only steal Obama signs out of your yard...I know that they do that for a matter of fact...but most of the country boys around here are just good old boys that help ladies in distress without any ulterior motives...but I do understand erring on the side of caution...reaching for a cigarette lighter is a little extreme in mho...if I was that worried...I think I would start walking rather than shoot somebody who was just possibly being a good guy...but that is just mho...but then again...I don't pack a pistol. | |

Nope. She probably had a jackknife, mace, and a big wooden spoon in there too - I'm telling ya the guy is lucky to have escaped with his life.

| Wow Alias, your hubby proves there are still decent people in this world. Thanks for shairng and letting us all see there are. Not everyone would have stopped to help that woman these days and it makes me happy to know not everyone is jaded or not willing to help. I had a flat year ago- no idea how to change it and I had my son with me, not yet a yr then, and my sister. A guy with his whole family in the car stopped to help me and he had just come from church cuz he had his suit on but it didn't bother him a bit. He refused to take any money for helping me. Nice to know there are guys like that still out there!! I agree with Donna, you hubby gets A +! | |
