Mother and Son Die Of Cancer Within Days Apart

WINDER, Ga. -- A Barrow County family lost both a young boy and his mother to cancer within two days of each other last week.

Ryan Morgan was familiar to Channel 2 Action News viewers after reporter Richard Elliot did a story in September 2008 about Ryan's dog being stolen while he was in the hospital for treatment.

Ryan suffered from neuroblastoma, a form of cancer that attacks nerve cells. Three years after he was diagnosed in 2004, Ryan's mother, Missy Morgan, discovered she had breast cancer.

On Wednesday Missy died.

Her husband, Les Morgan posted news of her death on Ryan's Web site.

"I'm so sorry to have to say to all our dear friends that Missy lost her battle with cancer this evening," he wrote.

On Friday, Ryan also passed away.

"Missy is holding one of her babies," Les Morgan wrote.

Visitation for both Ryan Morgan and his mother, Missy Morgan will be held Friday at Smith Funeral Home in Winder, 2-4 p.m. and again 6-9 p.m.

Funeral services will be at Bethlehem First Baptist Church in Bethlehem, Ga. on Saturday at 2 p.m.

awww wow so sad they are together now , but so sorry for the dad and husband . Never feels good to be left behind. May they rest in peace and may the daddy and husband find some sort of peace and happiness very soon

Life is strange at times, and this is one of those times. Really, what are the odds of this happening. Take a strong person to get through two deaths via cancer at the same time. Just heart touching.
